Day Six - And getting caught in the rain...
It's our last day here is Heredia. It's amazing how quickly time flies when you're having fun and learning so much. Even in the 5 days at CPI, I have met some pretty cool people and had some awesome conversations. Being immersed has not only helped my Spanish, but it has also helped me make some new friends.
After class today, I went out to lunch with a couple of the students from CPI - Jimmy, Sandra, and Ted. We went to a place called Fresas. Per usual in Costa Rica, the restaurant was very open and things ran on "Tico Time." Basically, you have to be ready to wait and willing to accept it. I tried ordering a sandwich with cheese and beans, but ended up with a grilled cheese. I don't think I lost too much there. =) The meal itself was very good though. For basically 3 bucks, I got a cup of soup, my sandwich, and a small scoop of ice cream. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Fridays in San Joaquin de Flores are the day of the Farmer's Market. The market was great! There were so many choices of the freshest fruit I have ever seen. I bought some mamon chinos, 2 huge starfruit, a piece of guanabana and Kelly bought the biggest avocado I have ever seen. We got all that for about...4 bucks. Cheap, fresh fruit - can't beat it.
As we were shopping, the rain started. It started and did not choose to stop. In fact, 3 hours later, it is still raining and raining hard. Being as smart as we are, Kelly and I decided to only bring my small umbrella with us. We tried walking back to school - about a 10 minute walk - with us both under the umbrella, but I ended up get rained on as it was. About halfway through our wet trek, I decided that another natural shower would be the best choice and ran in the rain the rest of the way home. I was soaked, but I had mamon chinos waiting for me when I got back.
Later tonight, Kelly and I met up with Ted, Jimmy and Sandra at the bar just down the street. Over cervezas, we told stories and just had a relaxing time. It was a great way to end our last night here.
I'm excited for our trip to Volcan Arenal tomorrow. Volcanoes, hot springs, and hiking through a waterfall await us. Sounds like fun, no?
